Endeavour Exhibition 2020: student innovation and ingenuity in the time of COVID
Creative and practical solutions to address real-world problems were showcased as part of Melbourne School of Engineering’s annual Endeavour Exhibition.
Final year masters students highlighted their diverse projects as part of a virtual event held in November. The impressive innovations included:
- Early detection testing for sepsis in pre-term babies
- Design of an electric three-wheeled off-road scooter
- Affordable housing using modular prefabrication processes
- Improved business process modelling
Despite the challenges of 2020, with reduced access to campus and fewer opportunities for face-to-face collaboration, the ingenuity and perseverance of our students shone. Video presentations displayed throughout the exhibition documented their journeys to complete the final product in their design, industry and research projects.
All student projects showcase the breadth of thinking among this talented cohort. Endeavour is also a nod of the exceptional dedication of Melbourne School of Engineering’s teaching staff who nurture and support students throughout the process.
Endeavour would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors who provide funding for awards and prizes to recognise the most outstanding projects. This year’s Endeavour supporters included Boeing; the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST); QinetiQ; Telstra; bequest donor Graham Beanland; and the University of Melbourne Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) team.
Our best wishes to all Endeavour participants for their hard work throughout 2020; a year we certainly won’t forget. And huge congratulations to the following teams recognised with a Endeavour award this year.
